Command & Conquer: Red Alert

Solid gameplay + good soundtrack + good storyline = Kickass game. Westwood has taken the award winning C&C formula and once again put together a great game that kicks it's rival Warcraft series in the behind. When the original C&C came out it began a craze of RTS games (real time strategy) that is still today one of the main genres. What C&C had Red Alert has more....more units, more missons, more features etc... Although RA's graphics cant compeate with Myth or Total Annihalation they do well in a game of this type of game but the gameplay more than makes up for this. The sound is great (Especially the music) and the videos are interesting enough to keep you from pressing ESC every time. This is just one of those games that once you beat it you'll be comming back for more.....a helluva a lot of more with free head 2 head play over Westwood Online or an 8 person rumble over a LAN. For the best bang for your buck I sugest the Domination Pack it's only around 50 bucks and has Red Alert, the some what dissappointing Counterstrike and Aftermath which is probably the best out of the trio...Bottom line is this game is awesome and I lost a lot of sleep because of it. I'd also like to add....If you own it look for me on Westwood Online and I'd gladly have you a game.

Breakdown (For Key)

Music: Awesome. This is probably the best soundtrack ever. The only other game who's soundtrack comes anywhere close to this is the original C&C's.

Sound: Very Good. Unit responses can get repetitive, but no where near as annoying as Warcraft II's responses.

Graphics: Very Nice. They are very smooth and it runs fast but it is not quite at the same level as Myth or Total Annihalilation.

Solo Play: Sweet. The solo play for this game kicks ass. Fun to play and the movies are great! The movies are not boring and they are not cryptic.

Multiplay: Superb. The maps are much larger than the original's and you can have 8 players over a LAN. Each side is well balanced so there is no advantage for one side or the other.

Fun Factor and Game Longevity: Awesome. This game doesn't get old because you can't stop playing! Even when Tiberian Sun is released this game will stay near the top of my CD Tower. My only gripe is that the AI doesn't build naval units.

System Requirements: Very Good. You can run the DOS version of RA on a 486 DX2 66MHz. Win 95 requirements are once again low at a Pentium 75. With high numbers of units or structures on the screen at once the scroll starts to chug.

Actual Minimum System Requirements:

Pentium Required (Pentium 90 recommended)

8 megs RAM (16 megs recommended, required for multiplayer)

40 megs Hard Drive Space

2X CD-ROM Drive (4X recommended)

1 meg Microsoft DirectDraw compatible video card

Microsoft DirectSound compatible sound card

28.8 kbps modem for Internet play

ISP account for Internet play

I refuse to tell you what you need to play over a LAN.
